The HR Generalist will play a crucial role in supporting the company’s HR functions by managing employee benefits programs, executing recruitment coordination, and leading the onboarding and engagement efforts at Shorr Packaging. This position requires a professional who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of working collaboratively across departments to ensure efficient HR operations. 

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration:

  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans (401(k)), disability, life insurance, and wellness programs.
  • Act as the main point of contact for employee benefits inquiries, providing guidance on enrollment, claims, and eligibility.
  • Coordinate open enrollment periods and communicate benefits updates or changes to employees.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations regarding benefits, such as COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and FMLA.
  • Collaborate with benefits providers to resolve employee issues and streamline processes.
  • Conduct benefits training and information sessions to educate employees on available options.
  • Assist in the preparation of benefits reports and audits, ensuring the accuracy of benefits data in the HRIS system.

Leave of Absence Administration:

  • Administer all leaves of absence programs, including FMLA, ADA, workers' compensation, short-term disability, long-term disability, military leave, and personal leaves.
  • Process leave requests and ensure employees are informed of their rights and responsibilities under applicable federal, state, and company leave policies.
  • Coordinate with employees, managers, and HR to communicate leave timelines, eligibility, and return-to-work procedures.
  • Monitor leave cases from start to finish, ensuring documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Track leave balances, deadlines, and expiration dates to maintain accurate records in the HRIS system.

Recruitment & Talent Acquisition:

  • Manages the pre-employment process (background checks, drug test etc).
  • Oversee the new hire onboarding process and conducts new hire orientation, ensuring new employees are integrated smoothly into the company.
  • Supports Lead Talent Acquisition Partner with organizing job fairs and other recruitment related events. 
  • Manages internal candidate interview process. 
  • Manages reporting requirements such as AAP/OFCCP tracking system (ATS) and ensure all candidate information is accurately documented.

HR Operations:

  • Maintain accurate employee records, including benefits, new hires, and status changes, within the HRIS system.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures to improve HR efficiency.
  • Supports employee engagement initiatives, HR metrics reporting, and compliance audits.
  • Assist with HRIS optimization efforts.

 

Qualifications

  • Associates degree or equivalent
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms and optimization.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an HR Generalist with a strong emphasis on benefits and leave administration.

  • Solid understanding of federal and state employment laws, including ACA, COBRA, FMLA, and FLSA.

  • Experience with HRIS systems and applicant tracking systems (ATS).

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
